So Glad 2 Be Me ROCKS!!
My daughter has always been a shy girl, very sensitive and emotionally tuned to those around her. These are wonderful traits but also led to her feeling often anxious and worried and very hurt when she was teased or made the centre of attention.
She first attended a workshop with Jen in November 2008 and she came back positively GLOWING, bursting to tell us what took place that day, the great exercises they did, the beautiful crafts they made and about the new friends she had made. She shared all of the tools she had brought home with her to remind herself of her worth when others teased or picked on her. I thought I had always said the right things, and gave her ideas for how to cope with these things, but something about Jen’s workshop hit it right on the nail for her.
This past summer, we enrolled our daughter in the 3-day camp. The cost was something I didn’t even hesitate to validate because if she was so positively affected after one day with Jen, I couldn’t imagine what would happen with three!
And sure enough, she came home every day, so pumped up with love for herself, and for the girls around her (even her sister!) that it was worth every penny.
This enthusiasm and great outlook has lasted since July. She keeps her crafts and pictures and poems from the camp all over her room, and when she feels unsure, we point these out to her as tangible reminders of her incredible uniqueness and of the changes she can make in herself and in those around her by remembering the lessons taught by Jen. These lessons included meditating, journaling, visualization, etc.
On her birthday in September, a card came in the mail from Jen for my daughter who was so touched that Jen remembered!
Jen also gave us a phone call a few weeks later when I expressed concern to her about a particularly negative situation that was taking place in the school. She and my daughter talked on the phone for two hours, and it made the world of difference.
After not sleeping well for about a month, my beloved child awoke the next morning with a smile and said, “Oh Mom, I’m so happy, I slept right through the whole night.”
I truly believe that if every child had access to Jen’s programs, there would be so many more healthy, happy and well-adjusted girls in this world, and honestly, an end to bullying in schools.
In fact, I would go to workshops for adult women as well!
